Today, the Aadhaar card is no longer just a means of identification. It provides easy access to many government schemes and services. Linking your mobile number allows you to avail these services from home or online.
2. Why Mobile Number Linking Is Important:
Identity verification is done through OTP in many government schemes and digital services. If your mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, you cannot avail these services.
3. Need to Change Old Number:
If your previously linked mobile number has been disabled or you wish to change it, please note that UIDAI has discontinued the online mobile number update facility. This process can now be completed only by visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
4. Online Appointment Booking:
Visit the official UIDAI website. Select your preferred language. Go to “My Aadhaar,” click “Get Aadhaar,” and select the “Book an Appointment” option.
5. Filling in Appointment Information:
Select your city or location, enter your active mobile number, enter the CAPTCHA code, and click “Generate OTP.” Verify the OTP once it arrives.
6. Entering Required Aadhaar Details:
Booking an appointment requires entering your Aadhaar number, full name, date of birth, application type, state and city, and your preferred Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
7. Selecting an Update Option and Time Slot:
Select the “Mobile Number Update” option. Then, choose the appropriate slot from the available days and times and submit after carefully reviewing all the details.
8. Aadhaar Seva Kendra Visit:
Visit your chosen center on the scheduled day and time. There, a UIDAI official will verify your identity through biometrics. You will be charged a ₹50 service fee for the update process.
9. Update Request Number (URN):
You will receive a URN (Update Request Number) upon completion of the process. This number helps you track your update status online.
10. Checking the Update Status:
Go to the UIDAI website, and select the “Check Aadhaar Status” option in the “My Aadhaar” section. Enter the URN and CAPTCHA and submit. The current status of your mobile number update will be displayed on the screen.
