Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will participate in a rally in Chennai on Saturday, May 10, to show solidarity with the Indian defence forces and denounce Pakistan’s recent aggression and trespass. The rally, which will be held at 5 pm, will commence at the DGP office and go up to the War Memorial adjacent to the Island Grounds.

Announcing the rally for Friday, Stalin said the march would be in solidarity with the military personnel who are “bravely defending the nation” following continuous terror threats and incitements from Pakistan. “Pakistan, which begets terrorism, did not just face bad things upon itself but also is engaging in abuse against India. Let us now show our solidarity to the Indian Army, who has been fighting courageously to protect us.

Former soldiers, ministers, public and students will also be present at the rally, Stalin said. “There will be a rally from the DGP office to the War Memorial via the Island Grounds, led by me with the support of ex-servicemen, ministers, public and students at 5 pm tomorrow. Let all the people join and show our unity and determination!

In a matching show of solidarity, the government of Karnataka organized a unity march in Bengaluru on Friday morning to offer respect to the country’s soldiers participating in Operation Sindoor. The unity march took place under the national tricolor and initiated by Deputy Chief Minister DK Sivakumar.

All the top ruling party leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and cabinet ministers, attended the procession, which is to convey collective appreciation and solidarity to the armed forces.

On Operation Sindoor day, Stalin had posted something on X to express strong solidarity towards the Indian Army. Stalin, who had previously condemned the Indian government for the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, had previously requested the Indian government to act and stop any further terror attacks.

Rally Overview

The rally will commence at 5:00 PM from the office of Director General of Police (DGP) and proceed till the War Memorial in the vicinity of Island Grounds, Chennai. The event aims to salute the gallantry and sacrifices of the Indian Army, especially in the context of recent operations conducted to thwart cross-border terror.

Political Responses

Support: Inter-party leaders such as AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP spokesperson Thirupathy Narayanan have endorsed the rally, urging national unity in the face of outside threats.

Criticism: People such as Lt. Col. N. Thiagarajan (Retd) have also questioned the timing and effectiveness of the rally, suggesting that tangible support efforts towards the armed forces might be more impactful.

Call to Action

Chief Minister Stalin’s rally is an outlet where citizens can voice their unflinching solidarity for the Indian Armed Forces. Participating in it is a way of showing solidarity and being part of an unwavering national front against aggressors.

Wider Context

The rally follows in the footsteps of “Operation Sindoor,” a military operation undertaken by India against terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied areas, in response to an April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam. The operation reflects India’s opposition to cross-border terrorism and its resolve to protect national sovereignty.
