DAZN, the world’s leading sports entertainment platform, made history by becoming the exclusive global broadcast partner for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The tournament featured 32 top clubs from every continent, with a total of 63 matches played.
2. Technical Collaboration—Techex’s Crucial Role:
DAZN’s long-standing technical partner, Techex, provided system integration, architecture design, and delivery support for the company’s Media Control Room (MCR) located in Leeds.
The goal was to create a scalable and cost-effective monitoring system.
3. Smart Monitoring by TAG Video Systems:
TAG Video Systems provided the real-time monitoring layer, enabling DAZN to monitor compressed and uncompressed streams, multiviewer outputs, and the entire signal chain.
4. Challenging Project Timeline:
This project was challenging on both technical and commercial levels.
Limited timeframe
Event-driven workflow
High volume and quality demands
Maintaining error-free signals during global broadcasts
5. Real-Time Monitoring Solution:
The combined technical partnership of DAZN, TAG, and Techex resulted in a software-based, IP-native monitoring platform.
This enabled real-time monitoring of the entire signal chain—from feed acquisition in the Leeds MCR to global distribution.
6. Key Capabilities:
Custom Mosaic Outputs: For real-time viewing in Leeds, Bangor, and Hyderabad.
RTP and HLS Monitoring: Parallel monitoring across various formats.
Adaptive Layouts: Editing views to match changing production needs during matches.
Hybrid Deployment: Based on on-premise hardware, but a cloud-ready platform.
7. Centralized Architecture:
The system was designed to manage over 5,000 video sources and 300 mosaic layouts. This network routes to operational hubs in Leeds, Bangor, and Hyderabad, ensuring high efficiency with low bandwidth.
8. Signal Quality and Content Validation:
Feeds from the event venue were ingested into two data centers.
The TAG system created multiviewer mosaics, allowing operators to instantly check signal quality.
All recordings and logs were used in reporting for post-match analysis.
9. Preparing for the Future:
Following the success of the FIFA Club World Cup, DAZN is now planning to implement this same model for other major tournaments and regional events.
In the future, DAZN will work on further enhancing its hybrid cloud architecture, smart signal validation, and post-mortem review tools.
10. DAZN’s Vision—Flexible and Future-Ready Infrastructure:
DAZN’s Head of Broadcast Project Engineering, David Christmas, said:
“Flexibility and scalability were our top priorities. With the collaboration of Techex and TAG, we have created an infrastructure that is ready not only for the FIFA Club World Cup but also for every live sports event in the future.”
