1. Danger looms over 2.5 billion users.

  • Google has recently alerted its more than 2.5 billion Gmail users. The company says that a dangerous hacking group is constantly active and is targeting people’s digital accounts.

2. Who are ShinyHunters?

  • This group is known as ShinyHunters. It has previously done many high-profile data breaches and now Gmail accounts have become its biggest target.

3. How is the attack done?

  • Their biggest weapon is phishing email campaigns. Email is sent to users, which says “Take action immediately” or “Special offer available.” As soon as the user clicks on the link or attachment, hackers get a way to access the account.

4. Google’s advice: Change password and increase security.

  • Google has warned to change the password immediately and use two-factor authentication (2FA). This will require an additional code along with the password to log in to the account.

5. How does two-factor authentication protect?

  • This feature stops hackers. Even if they get the password, they will need the SMS sent to your mobile or the code generated from the Authenticator App, which only you will have.

6. Attacks have become more dangerous due to AI.

  • Now these hackers are using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Fake emails created by AI look so real that many times users get deceived.

7. Phone calls and fake support emails

  • Hackers also call by introducing themselves as Google Support Executives. After the call, they send an email so that it seems that it has come from the real Google, and people get trapped easily.

8. Not just email, the whole digital life is in danger.

  • Google says that as soon as the email is hacked, banking, shopping and social media accounts also come under threat. Therefore, security should not be limited to Gmail only.

9. What to do and what not to do

  • Do not click on any link in any unknown email.
  • Change password from time to time.
  • Always keep two-factor authentication on.
  • Report suspicious mail immediately.

10. Google’s final message

  • Google is constantly strengthening its security system, but the company believes that the first responsibility lies with the users. Be alert, be smart and keep your digital accounts safe.
