Bollywood releases new films every week, but some raise expectations and some disappoint. Param Sundari, Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra’s latest romantic comedy, is one such attempt where despite a big star cast and an engaging theme, the story lacks the “life” that audiences are looking for. The tagline of the film is “Search for Soulmates”, but sadly, the search remains incomplete for the film itself.

Let’s find out 10 key aspects of why Param Sundari turns out to be a flat love story.

Story: Concept of soulmates but without a soul

The story of the film is very simple. Two characters – Janhvi and Sidharth – bump into each other at different junctures of life and then embark on a journey to become “soulmates”. The concept is not new, but could have been interesting if it was written with the right depth. Sadly, everything here remains superficial. No real emotions, no deep twists. After watching the film, it feels as if we have watched a long episode of an old TV serial.

Direction: Incomplete use of good vision

The director has tried to make the romantic comedy glamorous. Beautiful locations of Europe, colorful sets and catchy songs – everything is present. But the weak grip behind the camera does not allow the story to rise. Many scenes seem as if they have been added in a hurry. Where the audience looks for “heart-touching” moments in romantic films, that connection is not created in Param Sundari.

Acting: Star power but no chemistry

Both Janhvi Kapoor and Siddharth Malhotra are good actors, but in this film their pairing seems completely mismatched. Janhvi tries to handle some scenes with her innocence, but the script disappoints her again and again. On the other hand, Siddharth looks tired despite his charisma. The biggest strength of a romantic couple is their “chemistry”, but here the audience feels just a “formula love story”.

        Dialogues: Bland and old fashioned

The real fun of any romantic comedy lies in its dialogues. Funny banter, heart touching dialogues and love stories liven up the film. But the dialogues of Param Sundari are very average. At times, it feels like we have heard these lines in dozens of films before.

Music and songs: Beautiful but ineffective

The music album of the film has some good songs, which are pleasing to the heart when heard for the first time. The locations and costumes of the songs have also been filmed brilliantly. But the problem is that instead of emerging as a part of the story, these songs just seem like “video songs”. Once the songs end, the story remains as it is.

Cinematography and locations: Eye pleasing pictures

If there is something best in the film, it is its locations and cinematography. The small towns, lakes, forts and the shine of modern cities of Europe look spectacular on screen. The camera has captured these scenes beautifully. But the question is, can beautiful scenes alone make a film memorable? The answer is – no. Without the soul of the story, these scenes look like postcards.

Lack of humor: Where is comedy in a rom-com?

The film has been called a “romantic comedy”, but there is only a nominal amount of comedy in it. Two-four light punches and some artificial situations – that’s all that is called comedy. The audience feels more irritation than laughter. Whereas the biggest quality of this genre is to make the audience feel love while making them laugh.

Pace and editing: Strain and boredom

The biggest weakness of the film is its pace. Many scenes seem so long and drawn that the patience of the audience breaks. Editing could have been tighter, but it seems that the director considered every scene “important” and left it. The result was that the film became cumbersome.

Audience response: Did not live up to expectations

As soon as the trailer of the film was released, people were curious. The audience was expecting something new from the pairing of Janhvi and Siddharth, the rom-com genre and the grand settings. But the reviews and social media reactions after the release clearly show that the film did not live up to the expectations of the audience. It is being trolled on Twitter and Instagram by calling it “soulless” and “flat”.

                    Conclusion: An incomplete love story

Param Sundari is a film that has everything – stars, beautiful locations, songs and glamour – but what was most important is missing: a heart-felt story and true emotions. This film leaves fatigue instead of entertainment.
