Fauja Singh, 114, Killed in Tragic Hit-and-Run; PM Modi Offers Condolences Fauja Singh Ji was born in the earth of Beas, a small town in the Jalandhar area of Punjab and has taken a place in the hearts of people all over the world when he took away his breath in 15th July 2025. He was not the only runner, but the embodiment of will power, control and courage. It is a regrettable situation whereby when he was attempting to cross the main road of the village around three thirty in the afternoon, he was swiped by a vehicle whose driver has not been identified yet. This accident happened in his birthplace Beas.

Runners who crossed the age of 100 in the race of life

It was not only a running story of Fauja Singh but also a story of self-confidence that makes a person, no matter what his age is, be able to dream new dreams and realize them. At the age of 89, he conducted his first marathon. And after this, it seemed as if his life kept on running.

Until 100 his age, he played marathons in larger cities across the world and many records broke in his name. He became the first-ever person in the globe to run a marathon upon turning 100 years of age.

A man who was a son of the land of Punjab who shattered all the obstacles of age and made the entire world realize that there is nothing that can beat the power of the will. The legend of the marathon runners, Fauja Singh is not in this world anymore as he ran even when he was 114 years old. He was killed in a road accidents that occurred on Monday. He was hit by an unidentified vehicle when he was out taking an evening stroll in his own village in Jalandhar district of Punjab.

2:The last moments – The full story of the accident

The accident happened at around 3:30 pm, when Fauja Singh was crossing the main road in village Beas. Then an unknown car coming at high speed hit him hard. The local people immediately took him to a private hospital, but by then it was too late. On reaching the hospital, the doctors declared him dead.

3: Author Khushwant Singh confirmed

Author Khushwant Singh, who wrote Fauja Singh’s biography The Turbaned Tornado, confirmed this sad news. He posted on social media –

“My Turbaned Tornado is no more in this world. With a very heavy heart, I am sharing this news that my dearest Sardar Fauja Singh is no more among us. He met with an accident today while crossing the road in his village. May his soul rest in peace.”

4: Police action – Who is guilty?

SHO Hardeep Singh (Adampur police station) told that the son of Fauja Singh had reported the matter to the police. There has been registration of an FIR and the police are investigating. SHO said –

“At present, no clue has been found about that car. But we are making every effort to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.”

5: Prime Minister Modi paid tribute

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the tragic incident and said that the loss of an inspiration like Fauja Singh is an irreparable loss for the entire country. He expressed his condolences to his family and fans.

6: Emotional message of Punjab Governor

Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria shared a long message in which he wrote –

“Even at the age of 114, he participated with me in the ‘Nasha Mukt Rangla Punjab’ campaign. It is heartbreaking to know that this inspiration lost his life in a road accident today. His legacy will always inspire generations to come. Om Shanti.”

7: An inspirational life – kept running throughout his life

Fauja Singh proved in his life that age is just a number. He has participated in many international marathons, and earned the name “The Turbaned Tornado” . When he was 100, he smashed several records. It is an illustration of discipline, sadhana and determination in his life.

8: A mission for the society – Message of de-addiction

Even in his last years, Fauja Singh remained associated with social service. He gave the message of staying away from drugs to the youth and participated in the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab’ movement. He used to say –

“I run so that the youth understand how important it is to keep the body and soul clean.”

His body was transported in his own home village to be cremated with honours. Villagers, local officials and diehard fans of all distant lands turned up to say a last farewell to him. There were people shedding tears but at the same time they were proud to have produced such a gem out of their village (Fauja Singh).
